Francis J. E. Persun Collection
The collection consists of information from a transcribed diary written by Francis J.E. Persun from July 23 to August 26, 1911. The transcription covers his journey from Aberdeen through western South Dakota through the Badlands. The transcript is complete with geological terms and definitions. A number of individuals are mentioned in the journal. Francis Jacob Ethebert Persun filed a WWI draft registration card in Faulk County South Dakota. His birth date is given as August 24, 1882. The 1920 Federal Census listed Francis as a high school instructor in Litchfield Village, MN. The 1930 Federal Census has Francis married to a Susan Persun both having a daughter named Francis. The census lists Persun as a Smith-Hughes, Public School instructor in Crosby City, ND. A digital copy of the transcription, including photos of small mementos found in the actual diary, was processed in accordance with the Archives' digital preservation rules and can be found on the N: drive.
