Adeline M. Jenney Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of an unpublished Ph.D. dissertation by Adeline Miriam Jenney entitled: Processus Prophetarum. Adeline Jenney was the second Poet Laureate of South Dakota. The Processus Prophetarum was a medieval drama. The dissertation was written in 1915 while Jenney was a student at the University of Wisconsin. The dissertation is 428 pages long and includes an abstract and bibliography. There is correspondence in the collection from a professor Karl Young from the University of Wisconsin. Jenney’s family moved to Valley Springs, South Dakota in 1917. An instructor at Yankton College, Jenney became the secretary of the South Dakota Poetry Society in 1933. In 1937 she became the editor of Pasque Petals, a position she held for over three decades. In 1958 she became Poet Laureate of the state by proclamation of the governor.
