Content Description
The collection consists of five reprint photographs of cattle being slaughtered in Dewey County near Eagle Butte in 1934. The images show a trench being dug, cattle in the trench, and the cattle being slaughtered. The slaughtering of cattle and other farm animals (as well as the destruction of crops and other farm commodities) was one of the government methods which attempted to end the Great Depression of the 1930s through the United States Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933. The images were reprinted in the 1988.
