Content Description
The collection consists of an 1881 payroll list and 1884 contract for the Grand Junction Mine in Custer County. The September 1881 payroll list includes twenty-two names and lists occupation, days worked, rate per day, amount paid, and the workers signature after receiving payment. The main occupations listed include foreman, carpenter, blacksmith, and teamster. The payroll measures 11βx 18β was encapsulated in Mylar, and will be placed in map drawer 118. The October 12, 1884 contract was for a Mr. Henry Mahnke βto deliver ore from the mine to the chute of the incline tramway.β The rate of pay was thirteen cents per ton. The contract is in box 3456C. John and Anna Maria Wilhelm moved to Custer County in September 1879 and owned joint interest in the Grand Junction and surrounding mines.
