Content Description
The collection consists of three scrapbooks containing 269 magazine covers. During July of 1942 a national contest was held for the most patriotic use of an American flag on the cover of an American magazine. Elizabeth (Meadows) Crissman compiled the magazine covers in Ipswich (S.D.). The collection consists of more than half of the total number of publications that put the American flag on their cover. She also has the winner of the contest – “House & Garden” with the image of an American Flag at Mt. Vernon. The event marks the first 4th of July after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and America’s entrance into World War II.
