Content Description

The collection consists of nine postcards, three photographs and one cabinet card from the Gary (S.D.) area. One postcard features the South Dakota State School for the Blind in Gary (S.D.). Another photo shows the dam at Lake Elsie Park at the School for the Blind as part of a 1948 calendar published by the Gary Interstate. Seven of the postcards are of families from the Gary area. Some of the family names include Lightfoot, Bailey, Wells, Reihe, and Wells. The postcards show a home interior, home, horse drawn buggy, a child on a porch, and a farmstead. Images also include a railroad rotary snowplow and oil tanks at Gary. A final image is a Miller Studio postcard titled, “Moonlight on the Missouri, Pierre, S. Dak.” Also included are two photographs of horse drawn buggies and one cabinet card of three women (one identified as Marie Bloomenrader) taken by Grays Studio of Watertown (S.D.).
