Content Description

The collection consists of photos and postcards of various Pierre scenes. Included are two postcards of the Oahe Dam from 1958, interior view of the Pierre Municipal Lounge ca. 1960s, Pierre/Fort Pierre Flood images form 1952 (including winter scenes), the Corps of Engineers ferryboat John Ordway, and a photo of the open span of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad bridge in Pierre. The collection also features images of roadwork on the highway bridge across the Missouri River from the 1940s. Other items include a “School Memories” photo book from McKinley Elementary School ca. 1957 in Pierre, a Shrine Circus at Fort Pierre ticket from 1959 and a Red Owl store set of sewing needles. Other items were added to the State Archive’s holdings including: a Pierre phonebook from 1936-1937, “Your Neighbor Lady Book, 1955” to the WNAX vertical file, Oren S. Hindman memorial to biographical file, Stuart McPherson memorial to World War II Combat Dead vertical file, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, 22nd Annual Encampment to 3591A.
