Content Description

This collection consists of black and white photographs of the construction of the Orman Dam, one newspaper clipping on the Civilian Conservation Corp camp, and the certificate of Discharge from the C.C.C. for Alvin Greek. The Orman Dam was built on the Belle Fourche Reservoir twelve miles north of the town of Belle Fourche. The Civilian Conservation Corps camped at this site in order to repair and make improvements to the reservoir. Alvin Greek was an Assistant Leader with Camp DBR-2, Company 2750, Fruitdale, S.D. The photographs were sorted according to size. Almost all are unidentified. The photographs show the construction of Orman Dam and the Civilian Conservation Corps camp including: office areas, the hospital, group photos, mess tent, sleeping quarters, and winter scenes. One folder of photographs were taken while the crew took short trips to Devils Tower, the Stratosphere Balloon flight site, Sylvan Lake, Mount Rushmore and Bear Butte is also included with this collection. Alvin Eckberg is the only other person identified other than Elvin Greek.
