Content Description

The collection consists of a book “Sun and Saddle Leather” of various poems written by Badger Clark. The book was a gift from Clark to Barrett Lowe in June 1932. Within the published book is correspondence sent by Clark to Lowe in June of 1931 and three other typewritten poems. The three-page typewritten letter from Badger Clark, dated June 14, 1931, provides various personal notes and thoughts on Clark’s writing and his life in general. Three typewritten poems signed by Clark are titled “An Oldster Muses,” “The Job,” and “Lead, My America.” The letter and poems “Oldster” and “Job” are glued to the book. Also included are two images glued to the inside front and back cover of the book, one of Badger Clark and the second an image of deer, presumably taken by Badger Clark, at the Badger Hole. The collection also features a Minneapolis Sunday Tribune article on Badger Clark from December 3, 1950 as well as an In Remembrance card on Clark after his death in 1957. The two images, letter, and three poems were scanned and added to the State Archives manuscript digital collections.
