The collection consists of bank statements, cancelled checks, Federal Income Tax Records, Brown County Tax Records, along with various bills and payments. The Donovan family farmed five and a half miles east of Hecla, SD in Brown County. Edward and Freda were married in December of 1925. They mostly farmed corn, oats, and flax but also raised Aberdeen Angus cows, pigs, horses, chickens, turkey, ducks, and sheep. The Donovan farm is listed as a Centennial Farm. Edward died in 1972 and Freda died in 1986. The collection offers a detailed account of the Donovan family’s finances from the mid 1930s to the mid 1950s. Income and expenditures for various years, bills and taxes paid, can be extrapolated from the collection.
