Content Description
The collection consists of one map printed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Company in April 1882. The map, measuring 18 ½” x 25”, includes counties and towns in Dakota Territory. The main thrust of the map is in showing the Chicago and Northwestern routes in Dakota Territory, in what would eventually become South Dakota. Other rail lines from different companies are also represented on the map. The top third of the map includes the Chicago and Northwestern rail lines from Chicago to Dakota Territory. The back of the map has information and statistics, as an advertisement, to compel people to move to Dakota Territory. The top third of the map is torn and separated on the fold line. The map will be encapsulated in Mylar for further protection.
