Content Description
The collection consists of nine photographs (2 1/2" x 4") taken in and around Plankinton (S.D.) The photos date to 1918. Winn L Taplin, Sr. (1893-1961), originally from Vermont, graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1916 and spent over six years of his life in Iowa and South Dakota. The images include a photo of main street Plankinton, two images of the main building at the State Training School, two images of cattle, and a photo of a horse drawn swather/windrower. The 1886 Dakota Territory Legislature approved the creation of the Dakota Reform School for delinquent children, with the school opening in Plankinton in 1888.
