The collection consists of one family history titled “The Davis Heritage” by Eva (Davis) Madden with additions made and compiled by Lois (Davis) Higbee, being edited and published by Patricia (Higbee) Tordsen. The history centers around the family and descendants of William and Sarah (Manley) Davis who both emigrated from Ireland and were married in Minnesota, they had thirteen children. The family moved to South Dakota in the Spring of 1883 to Liberty Township in Beadle County. The history includes various stories and recollections from family members. There are also stories of Saint Williams Catholic Church (Yale, S.D.), where the family attended church and where many family members are buried. The collection includes copies of photographs, postcards, and primary resources. The Irish in South Dakota Collection will be an open collection and will consist of future donations relating to Irish families in South Dakota. Box 4932B will be used specifically for future Irish in South Dakota collections.
