The collection consists of items donated by Jane Larson via Nellie’s daughter Edith B. Siegrist. The collection is an accretion to H2012-090. Nellie Flickinger was born September 7, 1890 in Warner (S.D.) to William and Edith Flickinger. She was married May 7, 1918 to Albert Siegrist in McIntosh (S.D.) and the family lived on Alpine Farm near Keldron (S.D.), Corson County, from 1918 to 1958. The nine diaries are from April 1947-January 1948, February 1949-March 1950, March 1950-December 1950, 1961-1964, 1968 and 1971, the year Nellie died. The diaries note the day-to-day operations of the Siegrist family, particularly seen from a women’s point of view. The donor provided notes on various high points in each diary. Photographs in the donation include a double frame of Albert and Nellie Siegrist, a photo of William and Edith Flickinger and their five daughters, an 1898 photo of Bea, Mary and Nellie Flickinger on a mule, baby portrait of Nellie Flickinger, Nellie Flickinger and her students at her country school, Moe School 1918 and a photo of Edith Flickinger (Nellie’s mother). The collection also includes an autographs book of Edith Siegrist from Lemmon High School and Huron College. An account book kept by William Flickinger from 1886-1901 as well as a letter from Edith to her family and a letter from Edith’s aunt. Additional donated items were transferred to the museum for their consideration.
