The collection consists of items pertaining to Robert C. Peller mainly involving his military service in World War II. Peller was a pilot with the 16th Combat Cargo Squadron flying cargo from India to Burma and then from Burma to China, primarily flying C-47s. The collection includes letters, dated from 1943 to 1945, sent to his family who lived at 324 West Pleasant Drive in Pierre. Also featured are photographs from Peller’s early life in Pierre as well as images taken during the war, military records such as orders, promotions, and awards and pilot logs and pilot rating books from basic training. Items from his youth include a 1938 Pierre Gumbo and other High School related publications and certificates. Additional items were donated to the State Historical Society Museum.
