Sylvan Williams Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of an audio oral history interview, transcript, and edited manuscript from the interview. The interview took place on July 20, 2009 at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre. The interview was between Sylvan Williams and Matthew T. Reitzel of the South Dakota State Archives. The one hour and forty minute interview is a reminiscence of the Williams’ family of Jackson County South Dakota dating from roughly the 1900s to the 1930s. Sylvan offers stories of the homesteading lives of H.H. and Grace Williams (his grandparents) and their children George, William (Sylvan’s Father), Peter, Dell, and Sarah. He also tells stories of his parents William and Esther (Jacquays) and their children Jess, Sylvan, Vincent, and Patrick. The collection also contains seven scanned images provided by Sylvan of Williams family members including: H.H. and Grace and their children, along with William and Esther Williams and their children.
