The collection consists of various materials relating to the Chamberlain Sanitarium and Hospital (Chamberlain, S.D.) from the 1910s to 1930s. The founders of the sanitarium and hospital, Creighton and Anna Farnsworth, collected the items. The items relate to either the hospital or the family directly. The collection includes photographs, postcards and negatives of hospital nurses and staff and the interior and exterior of the hospital building. There are also two photographs of the Missouri River near Chamberlain. Other photos include graduation images of Mary (1927) and Margaret (1931) Farnsworth. The collection contians the 1927 high school graduation class of Chamberlain and diploma for Mary. Additional Farnsworth family photos are in FB 717. The collection also features an alumni list for the sanitarium and hospital with class lists, including names and addresses, from 1909 to 1939. Two small pamphlets are included for the dedication of the sanitarium on September 11, 1907 and “The Period of Adolescence in the Boy and Girl” by Anna Farnsworth. Also present is a diploma from the Chamberlain Sanitarium and Hospital for “Training School for Nurses” presented to Dena Widicker in September 1933. A number of photographers are represented in the collection including Hoyt Cox (Chamberlain, S.D.), O. E. Bowman (Montrose, S.D.) and M. K. Eliason (Mitchell, S.D.).
