Fred Rasmussen Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of one farm ledger, a Rasmussen Family History, and miscellaneous letters and correspondence found within the ledger. Fred Rasmussen was born in Denmark and immigrated to the United States in the late 1800s. The Rasmussen family settled near the Claremont (Brown County) area in 1896. He farmed there from 1896 until the 1940s. The hand written farm ledger dates from 1890 to the late 1920s. The more meticulous records date to the 1890s. The ledger includes bills, expenses, paid work, and cash received. The ledger is an excellent source for farm operations from 1890 to 1930. Also included are bills paid for School District Nine and the Detroit School District, presumably in Brown County.
