Content Description
The collection consists of one 8” x 30 ½” panoramic photograph of a large group of individuals, mostly firefighters, taken in front of the South Dakota State Capitol for the Eighth Annual Fire School and Fifty-Third Annual Convention of the South Dakota State Firemen’s Association held in Pierre May 31 through June 4, 1937. Various fire departments recognized in the panoramic photo include Pierre, Hot Springs, Hudson, Huron, Gettysburg, Burke, Tyndall, White Lake, Mobridge and Parkston. The image also includes four fire trucks from the Pierre Fire Department. Also featured are members of the Pierre baseball team and the Mobridge High School band. The photo is credited to Miller Studio of Pierre. Pierre Firefighter Earl F. Mathews is seated behind the steering wheel of the fire truck to the far right, his son, the donor of the photograph, is sitting next to him.
