Content Description

The collection consists of legal documents, correspondence and photographs concerning the Danser family from the Bowdle (S.D.) area dating from the 1910s to 1940s. George Danser came to the Bowdle area in 1884; first working as a drayman and later as a manufacturer of cement blocks. The main legal documents include mortgage papers for Horace Danser for various lands in Edmunds County mainly in Section 1 of Township 122 North, Range 73 West. Other legal documents include contracts for School Lands and Farm Leases as well as other deeds. The collection also includes correspondence from the United States Department of Agriculture from the 1940s. The correspondence concerns various farm programs, crop insurance and premium rates, acreage allotment numbers and other farm data. Photographs in the collection mainly comprise various Danser family scenes as well as a postcard view of the Bowdle Public School, schoolchildren and a confirmation class. One image of Bowdle’s main street is also included. Most of the photographs are unidentified.
