The collection consists of information regarding the family of Frank and Augusta Deuter. The Deuter's immigrated to Dakota Territory in 1882 and settled in Campbell Township, Hand County. The collection includes scrapbooks with family photographs, pedigree/descendants chart, obituaries, news clippings and other documents. Frank and Augusta had thirteen children. The photos, family history and scrapbook offer insight in to the family and their descendants. A family cookbook is also included. One of their daughters, Alice Pearl, married Orwell Peterson in 1920. Orwell worked on the construction of Mount Rushmore and the scrapbook includes photographs, newspaper clippings, documents and two VHS tapes concerning the events of the 50th Anniversary Dedication of Mount Rushmore in 1991. President George H. W. Bush arrived for the dedication. The collection also includes a list of Hand County School Officers from 1914-1915, two school books (literature and arithmetic) used by Alice Deuter in the 1910s and a scrapbook for the First Presbyterian Church (Rapid City, S.D.) from the 1950s to early 1960s.
