 Unprocessed Material — Box: 06612 A
Identifier: H2014-062

Content Description

The collection consists of two postcard booklets of the Badlands and Black Hills of South Dakota from the 1930s. The Badlands booklet features twenty color-tinted images of various scenes taken throughout the badlands. The “Beautiful Black Hills” booklet also includes twenty color-tinted postcards. Locations photographed include Bear Butte, Needles Highway, Mount Coolidge, Sylvan Lake, Harney Peak, Devils Tower, Rough Lock Falls, Mount Rushmore and Spearfish Canyon. Copyright information dates the booklets to the 1930s, created by the Curt Teich & Company, Inc of Chicago (IL). Also included within the booklets are short narratives on both the Badlands and Black Hills. The booklets are postmarked from October 1947 and were sent to a Mr. and Mrs. George Jorgenson of Montevideo (MN). Arlo and Lally Marienau, who were presumably on vacation, mailed the postcards. A few of the Badlands postcards have “here” written on them.
