Content Description

The collection consists of two items. The first is a city map of Pierre from 1961. The map was created by Roy Baker, city engineer for Pierre. The scale of the map is 1 inch equal to 400 feet. The map contains all the streets, additions, railroad lines, lots, and blocks. The map measures 53 ½” wide by 50” high. The map is torn in spots, has water damage, and is crinkled around the edges. The second item is a pencil drawing of the State Capitol done in 1937. The drawing is 22” high by 32” wide. The drawing was made by Chester E. Yokubicek. His occupation was a draftsman, which explains the precise scale and detail of the drawing. The 1935 South Dakota State Census lists Yokubicek as living in Geddes, SD being born in Illinois, from Bohemian decent, and a veteran of World War I. He died in February of 1976; he was married with three children. He is buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour, SD.
