Content Description

The collection consists of postcards and some photographs, mainly of events in Pierre, SD. The majority of the postcards relate to the Pierre Days of ’81 Parade, including cars and floats. Other images postcards include Scotty Philip’s buffalo, the Bad River flood in Ft. Pierre of May 1927, the Railroad and Highway bridges over the Missouri River at Pierre, as well as the State Capitol, Center of South Dakota/Nation Monument, and St. Mary’s Hospital of Pierre. There is also a rodeo grounds scene that is unidentified. There are also postcards of Black Hills tourism locations including, the Needles Highway, Sylvan Lake, Spearfish – U.S. Fish Hatchery, and Spearfish – Community Building at Tourist Park. Four loose photographs were added to box 3774C including: Scotty Philip’s Buffalo Team, Scotty Philip’s Buffalo at his Ranch, Swans on Capitol Lake, and an unidentified home. Items relating to the life of Marilyn Miller were added to her Biographical File. Pierre Gumbo yearbooks (’22, ’23, & ’24) were returned to the donor as the State Archives has those years in its collections.
