Hazel Mahone Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of various items relating to Hazel Mahone. Hazel (Warren) Mahone was a successful African American businesswoman from Huron (S.D.). Born in 1910 to Jerry and Carrie (Simpson) Warren, she excelled at school and graduated from Huron High School in 1928. She spent two years at Huron College and began working in a beauty parlor in Huron in 1932 after graduating from the College of Cosmetology in Sioux Falls (S.D.). She married William Mahone in 1952. They traveled the world, visiting over 80 countries, and became involved in a number of humanitarian projects. She died April 13, 2010. The collection is an accretion to H2006-086 and H2007-054.
