The collection consists of two official ballots from Hyde County for the November 6, 1956 South Dakota general election. The long ballots measure 8”x 22” and includes instructions to voters. The ballots list both Republican and Democratic Party candidates for various federal, state and Hyde County positions such as auditor, treasurer, register of deeds, clerk of courts, sheriff and county commissioner. The ballot included presidential electors for both parties. Running for Governor and Lieutenant Governor were Joe Foss and L. R. “Roy” Houck (Republicans) and Ralph Herseth and John Lindley (Democrats). Notable federal candidates are Francis Case and George McGovern. Vivian Stingley, clerk of courts for Hyde County is also listed on the ballot.
