Curtis Dahlin Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of one photograph, two postcards and one newspaper. The photograph shows a sod homestead in Perkins County, ca. 1910s. The image is from the collections of Jens and Berta Hatle who homesteaded in Perkins County but this was not there home. The owner is not identified. The two postcards are of the Matt Hustad blacksmith shop, ca 1910s. It is believed that this image was either taken in Webster or Roslyn, but presumably in Day County. However, further research was not able to determine where the building was located. A John Hustad had a horse shoe and harness ship in Roslyn and a Matt Hustad was a blacksmith in the nearby town of Ortley, in Roberts County. Additional research may help pinpoint the location. Finally, a newspaper dated December 18, 1820 from the Niles’ Weekly Register of Baltimore (MD) includes a small story on a group of Sussitongs [presumably Sisseton] Indians and an altercation with the military on the Missouri River in November of 1820.
