Hughes County “3-Cs” Extension Club Collection

Content Description

The collection consists of scrapbooks, secretary books, photographs, ribbons, news clippings, programs, yearbooks, cards, member lists and guidelines for the Hughes County “3-Cs” Extension Club. The materials date from the 1950s to the 1980s. Existing statewide, extension clubs were governed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in connection with South Dakota State University and a state Extension Service Director. Local groups would have an extension board, officers and members. According to the Secretary Book, the creed of the extension club was “To maintain the highest ideals of home life; to count children the most important of crops; to so mother them that their bodies may be sound, their minds clear; their spirits happy and their character generous. To place service above comfort; to let loyalty to high purposes silence discordant notes; to let neighborliness supplant hatreds; to be discouraged never. To lose self in generous enthusiasm; to extent to the less fortunate a helping hand; to believe one’s community may become the best communities; and to cooperate with others for the common ends of a more abundant home and community life.”
