St. John's Lutheran Church (Agar, S.D.)
The collection consists of a family bible and one hymn book, both printed in German, which came from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Agar, S.D. The family bible includes a number of pages for a family chronicle (familien-chronik). The pages are blank in this particular bible and include a dedication page (widmungsblatt), wedding (trauug), father (hausvater), mother (hausmutter), parents of father (eltern des hausvater), parents of mothers (eltern des hausmutter), children (kinder), godchildren (patenkinder), deaths (sterbefälle), and important family experiences (wichtigere familienerlebnisse). The bible includes both the old and new testaments and illustrations. Roughly translated the title of the hymn book reads, “Four-part chorale book, The Church Hymnal for Evangelical Lutheran Congregations.” The hymn book was printed by the Concoria Publishing House: St. Louis, MO, 1906. The hymn book includes preface and content pages. The word Choralbuch (Choral Book) is on the cover of the hymnal. The closing worship service at St. John’s Lutheran Church was held on Sunday, October 24, 2010.
