Robert B. Fisk Collection--Letters (Correspondence)
The collection consists of thirty-three letters sent to Gettysburg (S.D.) attorney Robert B. Fisk from 1895-1920. Most of the correspondence deals with bills and purchases and conversations concerning various court cases. Robert B. Fisk was born March 2, 1852 in Covington, Kentucky to John and Elizabeth (Johnson) Fisk. He graduated from high school in 1870 and began working in the law firm of his father and older brother. He would later graduate from law school at Cincinnati College and in 1872 was admitted to practice law in Kentucky. He married Julia C. Green, also of Kentucky, on October 30, 1883. He came to South Dakota in 1884 and would later move to Gettysburg in 1886 and litigated several high profile cases in Potter County. He was also elected county judge for Potter County in 1894, serving one term. He died in Pierre on May 7, 1930. The collection is an accretion to H85-095, a separate small collection of Mr. Fisk’s letters.
