Content Description

The collection consists of three photographs of the Blankenhagen farm near Lake Andes (S.D.). Photographer Alpha Mortenson took the images of the Blankenhagen’s working their wheat field. Two of the images show horse drawn wagons filled with wheat for threshing. A third image shows the wheat stacks in the Blankenhagen field, the town of Lake Andes is seen in the background. Another photograph in the collection is of the 5th Annual Amateur Radio Convention in Vermillion, SD February 12-13, 1926. In the photo, a group of some forty men are standing at the entrance of a building, some with their amateur radio identifications. Lectures and classes were held at the University of South Dakota with a banquet that followed at the Waldorf Hotel. The image was taken in front of the University of South Dakota Library. Newspaper stories on the event were researched and placed in the accession folder. The images were scanned and then processed in accordance with the Archives’ Digital Preservation Rules.
