The collection consists of numerous photographs, slides and oversized photographs taken by photographer Joe McCully from roughly the 1960s to 1990s, with the majority of the images dating to the 1990s. Born in Torrington (WY) in 1924, Joe later attended Minnesota Bible College where he met his wife Thelma and they moved to Blunt (S.D.). In the early 1950s, Joe was hired by the South Dakota Department of Transportation and did photography work for the state. In 1976, one of his South Dakota photographs was chosen as part of a bicentennial exhibit which toured the United States. His wife Thelma died in 1983 and Joe retired in 1986. Joe remarried and in the fall of 1988 he and his wife, Sharon, moved to Cheyenne (WY). Joe died of cancer in 1995. The majority of the photos from the 1990s were taken in Wyoming. Further processing will be required to identify specific South Dakota images.
