Content Description

The collection consists of thirteen various postcards of South Dakota locations. Scenes include Emery (S.D.), Spencer (S.D.), Mitchell (S.D.), Sioux Falls (S.D.) Spearfish Falls, a Threshing crew and the Missouri State Prison (Jefferson City, MO). The prison postcard was kept as it is addressed to Edith. The donor purchased a photo album at a local auction. The album had written on it “Aunt Edith Ruth/Reth’s Book.” The back of some of the postcards are addressed to an Edith Cook of Spencer (S.D.). Census research found an Edith Cook, living in McCook County in both the 1915 and 1910 census. Edith was born in Iowa in 1899 to Thomas and Donewlla Cook. The postcards date to the 1910s to 1920s. A list and description of the postcards is provided below.
