Arla (Twedt) Anderson Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of thirty black and white photos of school children taught by Arla (Twedt) Anderson dating from 1928 to 1932. The photos were taken while Arla taught in Union and Tripp Counties. Three photocopied teachers’ contracts are included in the collection. Images in the collection include: groups of students, rural school houses, picnics, Arla and her students, images taken on the Fourth of July and children with musical instruments. Some photographs are labeled these include photos of Fairview Center with the first names of children provided, Romnerein School in Langford, Nelson school picnic in Martin’s Grove, and Mr. and Mrs. Ole Stolsmark. Arla Leone Twedt was born in Norway township, Lincoln County, South Dakota on January 9, 1906 to Ole and Mollie Twedt. She was educated in rural schools and attended Canton Lutheran Normal School. After teaching in rural schools for several years, she was married to Neal W Anderson in 1933. They farmed in Lincoln County and raised a family of three children. Arla enrolled at Augustana College and completed requirements for the State Teaching Certificate in 1957 adn a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960. Arla was employed as a teacher in the Slayton (MN) grade schools until her retirement. She died in 1994 and is buried in the Romsdal Lutheran Church cemtery.
