Content Description
The collection consists of twenty-four (3 x 3) snapshot black and white photographs taken throughout the Black Hills of South Dakota. Viola Vogelpohl, her husband Leo and neighbors took a trip to South Dakota in the summer of 1964. The group was from Missouri. They took pictures of Rapid City, Dinosaur Park (Rapid City, S.D.), the Black Hills Passion Play theater, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and the Black Hills. There are also images of a young bighorn sheep and buffalo. Of particular interest is a photo of the vacationers standing near a “Welcome to South Dakota” sign featuring the Black Hills, Badlands, Great Lakes, Great History with a signature of South Dakota Governor Archie Gubbrud.
