Content Description

The collection consists of 4-H Club record books, photographs and other items compiled by Eileen (Kelsey) Elrod. Eileen Kelsey was born February 8, 1946 to Hagen and Ellen (Coney) Kelsey. Eileen attended Lone Rose School through eighth grade and then attended Fedora High School, graduating in 1964. She received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from South Dakota State University in 1968. The main parts of the collection are two 4-H Club record books kept by Eileen. The record books, with photographs and news clippings, show various events and projects that she participated in, as well as club reports for the “Helpful Workers” and “Happy Pals” groups. The items date to the early to mid-1960s. The records also include a narrative written by Eileen of her work and experiences with Home Life and 4-H programs and showing items and animals at the Miner County and State Fairs. A folder of additional photographs of Eileen and other individuals showing cattle and sheep is also included. The collection also has a December 1964 Fedora High School publication “Tiger Tracks,” an October 1966 issue of “S.D. Shorthorn News,” and a American Short-Horn Breeders Association certificate from 1893 to Clayton Kelsey of Roswell (S.D.). The collection is an accretion to H2014-082.
