Hollis E. Grieve Collection—World War II materials, 1945-1946
Content Description
The collection consists of items relating to the military service of Hollis Grieve during World War II and include correspondence, rifle score books, Chinese currency (12 pieces), a copy of a military discharge record and a November 30, 1945 issue of “Neshoba News” a publication compiled by soldiers in Mr. Grieve’s unit in China. The three pieces of correspondence date to May of 1945 and concern Mr. Grieve’s enlistment with the United States Marines. Hollis Erwin Grieve was born May 29, 1927 at Mitchell (S.D.) to Lawrence and Jennie (Elder) Grieve and died on December 20, 2005. He grew up on the family farm in Harmony Township and attended Templeton Country School through the eighth grade, then Wessington Springs High School, graduating in 1945. He entered the US Marine Corps in May 1945, and in September 1945 was shipped overseas to China. The collection is an accretion to a previous donation, H2015-026
