Content Description

The collection consists of one small image booklet titled, “Souvenir of the Fair City, Huron, S.D.” The booklet measures 3 ¼ inches by 4 ¼ inches. The booklet consists of eighteen individual images of various locations in Huron and date to the 1910s. Locations include Carnegie Public Library, Masonic Temple, Chicago and Northwestern Passenger Depot, Dakota Avenue, City National Bank, Huron High School, Sprague Hospital, South Dakota State Fairgrounds, Huron College, Methodist Church, Beadle County Courthouse, St. Martin’s Church, Dakota Avenue at Night, Hotel Royal, Presbyterian Church and the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Bridge. The cover features a picture of the Post Office and the back shows a bird’s eye view of the city. Huron became the permanent location for the State Fair in 1905 and the Carnegie Library was opened in 1909; thus dating the images to the 1910s.
