Content Description

The collection consists of one 3½ x 22-inch postcard panoramic image titled, “Panoramic View of Pierre, South Dakota.” The panoramic photo is comprised of four postcard sized images. The view is looking east from the Missouri River into Pierre, presumably from the top of a steamboat. Shown are the construction site and rail lines used in the building of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad bridge in Pierre, constructed from 1905 to 1907. Several buildings: residential, commercial and governmental, are identifiable in the photograph. The image is attributed to R. L. Kelly, photographer from Pierre. The panoramic image was encased, unfolded, in Mylar to further protect the image. Negatives created of the image were placed in the vault.
