Content Description

The collection consists of various postcards transferred from the State Archives of Florida. The images were connected to the Harold and Geraldine Haskins Postcard Collection at the Florida State Archives. Topics include Mount Rushmore, the Corn Palace, South Dakota State Capitol, Black Hills Passion Play, Homestake Mine, the Badlands, Spearfish Canyon, Wind Cave, Needles Highway, as well as churches and motels. The postcards include images from the South Dakota towns of Yankton, Huron, Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Brookings, Hot Springs, Hill City and Lead. The collection also includes a “Souvenir Album Set” of sixteen Black Hills photographs from the Rise Studio in Rapid City; four postcard booklets, two of the Black Hills and two of the Badlands, as well as two oversized postcard images of the Gold Rush Motel between Sturgis and Deadwood and the Corn Palace Motel and Chef Louie Steak House in Mitchell. The original letter to the South Dakota State Archives in August of 2017 noted that the letter was to be considered as a deed of gift.
