Dixon Township, Gregory County, Photographs
Content Description
The collection consists of two images and one photocopied tax record concerning residence of Dixon Township near the Dixon (S.D.) area in Gregory County, South Dakota. The first image shows the Clarence C. Nelson family standing near their original homestead shack in Dixon Township. Starting in 1905, the family homesteaded in the 10’ x 12’ tarpaper dugout shack for one and a half years. The photo was taken several years after the family had moved to a new home in the 1910s. A photo caption provides more detailed information on the move and the family. Clarence C. Nelson was an assessor for the township and was a state representative for three terms for Gregory County. The second image dates to the summer of 1928 and shows John W. Granberg leaning against a fuel pump in front of a two-story service station in Dixon (S.D.). A Model T truck is also in the photograph. The final document is a photocopied tax record, dated to March 1909 for 1908 taxes paid by L. H. Schultz at a cost of $10.20. The document was signed by the Gregory County treasurer.
