Content Description

The collection consists of letters sent by Wilferd Lillibridge during his service in World War II. The majority of the correspondence dates from January 1944 to November 1945. There were several letters written per month. Also provided is a list of identified names mentioned in Wilferd’s letters, a comb bound 89-page transcript of the letters and a number of poems written by Wilferd, mainly concerning the war. Wilferd served as a Private 1st Class with Battery C, 398th Armored Field Artillery Battalion during World War II, serving in England, France and Germany. He was discharged on November of 1945. Wilferd Jarvis Lillibridge was born March 30, 1910 to Reverend J. G. and Janet Lillibridge at Centerville (S.D.). The family lived in many towns throughout South Dakota. Wilferd married Audrey Matthew of Pierre on November 9, 1935, they had six children. Wilferd died on November 20, 1953 and is buried at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis (MN).
