SD Photograph Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of two photographs. The first is a 7x9 inch photograph of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Bridge in Pierre (S.D.). The image is attributed to Pierre photographer R. L. Kelly and dates to 1907. The steamboat “City of Fort Pierre” is on the Missouri River, the bridge itself is in the final stages of construction. The image was taken from the Pierre side of the river, looking west. The collection also includes an unidentified 3x4½ inch photograph of a man standing in front of a small real estate office with various black boards listing properties available for sale. The name listed on one of the building windows is “C. A. Harmon, licensed Real Estate Broker.” It is not known if this building was located in South Dakota. Further research has been unable to determine if there was a C.A. Harmon real estate agent in the state. It is assumed that the image dates to the late 1940s/early 1950s, possibly during the post-WWII real estate market.
