The collection consists of materials, mainly correspondence, relating to the South Dakota Youth Advocacy Project (SDYAP) from roughly 1990 to 1993. SDYAP was a private non-profit corporation located in Pierre which received federal funding from a Juvenile Justice grant. The goal of the organization was to address various juvenile justice problems throughout South Dakota. SDYAP consisted of a 20-member board of directors, comprised of representatives of local law enforcement, the judiciary, prosecution, state and local corrections, probation, county government, education, private service providers and state legislators. Items in the collection include correspondence, treasurer’s books/reports, Articles of Incorporation, juvenile justice reports, board minutes and newsletters.
