SD Postcard Collections—Badlands/Black Hills
Content Description
The collection consists of five color-tinted postcards: two from the Badlands, one of the Pigtail Bridge, one of Iron Mountain Road and one of Sylvan Lake. The two Badlands images were taken near Cedar Pass showing the “Castle” and various scenes, both are postmarked to 1948. The Pigtail Bridge image is also postmarked to 1948. The reflection on Sylvan Lake shows two canoes in the water and is postmarked to 1910. The Iron Mountain road image shows the pigtail bridge and the view towards Mount Rushmore. There is no postmark on this postcard, but it would date to the 1940s. The various postcards were published by Black Hills Postcard Company (Deadwood, S.D.), S. A. Longenecker—Importer/Jobber (Rapid City, S.D.) and Johnson and Bordewyk (Rapid City, S.D.).
