Content Description

The collection consists of thirty-nine reprint photographs of the town of Davis (S.D.) in east central Turner County. Five of the images date to the 1970s and show the post office, main street (2), American Legion building and a grain elevator. The other images in the collection roughly date from the 1890s to 1920s. Historical topics in this group include a local café, bank exterior, brick building, wood sawing, children and a wagon, steam tractors (2), automobiles (2), the interior of a bank, three women near a garage, a group of people by a lake, a large group of people swimming, three women sitting on an automobile, the Davis Community Band, school children (2), a school house, a store interior, main street scenes from various decades (8), two storefront images of the Davis Motor Company, residential buildings, the aftermath of a fire (2), the aftermath of a tornado (2) in 1928. The image were transferred from the State Historic Preservation Office, architectural survey files for Turner County. The items were collected in July 1982.
