The collection consists of handwritten newsletters titled, “The Buffalo Bellow” dating primarily from 1930 to 1935. Prior to 1930, the residents of Buffalo Township, Spink County organized a community club for the purpose of socializing and promoting all things of educational value. The club elected officers, had meetings throughout the year and held an annual picnic. Gordon MacNeill wrote the newsletters which he would read to the group at the meetings. Topics of interest in the newsletters include the weather, drought conditions and their effect on local farmers. Elections were also a topic covered in the newsletters. Themes connected with the Great Depression of the 1930s, both financially and agriculturally, are reported throughout the newsletters.
