The collection consists of photographs and postcards relating to Harry J. Genzlinger who lived in the Lucas (S.D.) area. Harry was born in February 1898 at Burr (NE) to Stephen and Sarah (Holscher) Genzlinger. In 1905 his parents bought a relinquishment in Turgeon Township in Gregory County. The went back to Nebraska two years later but they returned to the Burke (S.D.) are in 1910. Harry married Ruth Turner in June of 1938, they had two sons Vern and Lowell. Harry died in Watertown on March 23, 1982. Harry is the only individual identified in the images. They date from the late 1910s to early 1930s. A few images are from the 1940s. It is assumed that the other people are family members or neighbors of the Genzlinger’s. Topics within the photograph collection include: an aerial view of Burke (S.D.), tornado damaged buildings, automobiles, family scenes, Fourth of July, threshing scenes, Buchanan Sanitarium/The Fountain Home (Burke, S.D.), a baseball game, a tarpaper homestead shack, WWI era soldiers marching, a WWII era soldier in uniform with a group of individuals and numerous agricultural scenes including pigs, horses, cattle, farm houses and farm buildings.
