The collection includes roughly five and a half boxes of materials gathered from the author’s research in more than 100 libraries, archives and museums. These manuscripts include comments by others who knew Calamity Jane, researchers and writers who authored books, articles and essays on her, and correspondence between the authors and others researched Calamity Jane. Letters between Etulain and James McLaird, long-time professor at Dakota Wesleyan University and the leading authority on Calamity Jane will be particularly valuable to researchers. History on Calamity Jane’s family is also included. Most of the items were kept in their original folders which included various notes by the author. Most of the images in this collection are reprints from other institutions. Copies or scans made for research use will be acceptable.
