Content Description

The collection consists of thirteen postcards of various locations in South Dakota. Most of the postcards date to the 1950s to 1970s. Many of the images are of tourists stops or destinations. Those locations and topics include the Meridian Bridge in Yankton (S.D.), Sheridan Lake in the Black Hills, the Pasque flower which is the state flower of South Dakota, Missouri River Bridge at Chamberlain (S.D.), the Wheel-Inn Motel (Mitchell, S.D.), a Pheasant postcard, the armory building at the University of South Dakota, interior room of the Stuart Castle (Rockerville, S.D.) and five images of the Badlands in South Dakota. Photographers and companies who made the images include Dan Grigg Enterprise Co. (Mitchell, S.D.), Black Hills Postcard Company (Deadwood, S.D.), Dakota News Agency (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Black Hills Novelty Company (Rapid City, S.D.) and Rushmore Photo Inc.—Photo Studio (Rapid City, S.D.).
